Top Mowers Right Now

Below you will find some of the best mowers on the market along with the GOOD… and the BAD on each.  As new mowers come to market that meet our guidelines, we will post them.

Navimow X450

The GOOD… Probably the most reliable, well tested, mower out right now.

The Good Click to Read – Click to Close
  • True Wire-Free & Antenna-Free Setup: The mower utilizes Network RTK (NRTK) via a cellular connection, eliminating the need to bury perimeter wires or install a physical GPS antenna tripod in your yard.
  • All-Wheel Drive & Slope Mastery: Features a 4WD system with dual independent suspension that can confidently climb steep inclines up to 40° (84%) and clear obstacles up to 2.8 inches high.
  • Turf-Safe “Xero-Turn” Steering: An innovative eccentric front-wheel steering design allows for zero-turn maneuverability without dragging tires, preventing the torn grass and rutting common with traditional 4WD mowers.
  • Powerful Dual-Disc Cutting System: Equipped with a wide 17-inch cutting deck, 12 blades, and two robust 180W motors that easily power through thick, dense, or tall grass without bogging down.
  • Adaptive Cutting Height: The floating deck automatically adjusts cutting heights between 0.75 and 4 inches. It also features an “8-layer adaptive” system that automatically trims overgrown grass in staged passes to prevent clogging.
  • Advanced 360° AI Obstacle Avoidance: The VisionFence system combines high-definition cameras with Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors to recognize and instantly navigate around more than 200 common yard obstacles, pets, and toys—even in low light.
  • Fast Charging & High Coverage: The large 12.8Ah battery delivers about 110 minutes of runtime and utilizes a 224W fast charger to fully recharge in just 90 minutes, easily allowing it to cover properties up to 1.5 acres.
  • Dead-Zone Navigation: Fuses satellite data with visual mapping (VSLAM) and inertial tracking (VIO), allowing the mower to maintain its bearings and keep cutting accurately under heavy tree canopies where GPS signals typically drop.
  • Massive Multi-Zone Capability: Owners can map out and customize mowing schedules and specific cutting heights for up to 120 distinct yard zones.
  • Ultra-Quiet Operation: Operating at under 68 dB(A), the mower is quieter than a normal conversation, meaning it can run at night or early in the morning without disturbing neighbors.
The Bad PartClick to read… Click to close
  • Lack of manual speed control: Users cannot fine-tune or manually slow down the mowing speed for specific areas or when turning around.
  • NO LIFT: If you cut a grass like centipede that grows in many directions, there is no SUCTION of lift leaving some blades uncut.
  • CHANNEL marks / tire tracks: (This is true for ALL razor blade style mowers or mowers that have tires IN FRONT of the cutting deck.) If you’re cutting short, thick grass such as tight, thick, Bermuda… the mower wheels are located in front of the cutting deck. This slightly pushes down the turf, and leaves CHANNELS while cutting.
  • Forced perimeter routines: The mower is locked into its perimeter striping routine. Users cannot turn this off or alternate the perimeter mowing direction weekly, which can cause tire ruts over time.
  • Mowing pattern limitations: Owners cannot choose between different cut styles (like a racetrack pattern vs. standard striping) to prevent leaving uncut spots.
  • Return-to-base routing: There is no setting to customize how the mower returns to its dock (e.g., taking the most direct route vs. following the perimeter), which can waste time and battery.
  • Unresponsive app buttons: The app interface can be buggy, with users reporting that clearly enabled buttons sometimes do nothing when pressed, offering no error messages.
  • Notification management: The app lacks granular control over alerts. Users cannot turn off repetitive notifications like “returning to charge”.
  • Misleading reporting metrics: The weekly data reports “hours saved” based simply on how long the mower ran, which doesn’t accurately reflect real-time savings. It also fails to easily separate active mowing time from charging time.
  • Missing manual override options: There is no functional Bluetooth joystick control in the app to manually drive the mower over missed patches.
  • No “Pure RTK” mode: The system relies heavily on its AI vision, and users complain there is no option to force a strict “Pure RTK” mode to keep the mower from overthinking and skipping sections of the lawn.

The BAD…  Lack of customization / control with certain APP features and settings.

  • Turn-Free Mowing: Unlike traditional mowers that make a U-turn, it simply reverses direction and keeps mowing, saving time and preventing turf damage.
  • A HUGE 20″ 3 blade cutting deck.
  • Pure Vision Navigation: Utilizes Network RTK and the TerraVision 2.0 Triple-Camera AI system to navigate your yard without burying wires or needing a bulky RTK antenna on your roof.
  • AWD Performance: Four-wheel-drive system designed to confidently climb hills and handle uneven, complex terrain.
  • Live Camera View: The app allows you to see a live feed of exactly what the mower sees and even offers a joystick mode to manually clean up missed patches.

The Bad Part –Click to read… Click to close
  • Daylight Dependent: Because it relies heavily on its cameras for navigation, it requires daylight to work reliably, limiting nighttime mowing schedules.
  • Mulching Blades? Be careful, the deck has no discharge or airflow that we can see. We expect impacted mower deck issues. Will be testing.
  • Brand new… New models tend to have SLOW customer service because they are overloaded with questions. Not yet tested.

Key Specs: (Not yet confirmed)

  • Max Lawn Size: Up to 2.7 acres (They note it can handle up to 11,000 square meters if you utilize their expansion batteries).

  • Cut Rate per hour: ~12,900 square feet per hour (Listed as 1,200 square meters per hour, largely because its bi-directional “Shuttle Drive” doesn’t waste time making slow U-turns).

  • Battery Life: 180 minutes (Up to 3 hours on a single standard battery, but expandable up to 360 minutes / 6 hours with add-on batteries).

  • Control: App, Wi-Fi, Cellular (4G), and Bluetooth (It also includes a live remote-control joystick mode using the camera feeds).

The GOOD…

The Good Click to Read – Click to Close
  • Dedicated RTK Precision: Unlike systems that try to share a single base, each Lymow mower is uniquely paired to its own individual RTK station for a much more reliable signal.
  • Real mower blades: They create LIFT and cut (suction) that razor blades can not create.
  • Easy Maintenance: The blade assembly uses a standard 12mm or 13mm nut, making blade swaps quick and easy without needing oversized 17mm or 19mm sockets.
The Bad Part –Click to read… Click to close
  • No Network RTK: You must install RTK station
  • Real mower blades: Creating LIFT will cause wet grass to jam the deck. You must cut dry grass. No Dew on the grass.
  • Over heating issues: Well known with some fixes. (watch the videos) Best to limit cutting to sunset or make the mods that Doc shows.
  • Slow customer service: Like most, but emails often don’t get a reply for many days.
  • Lots of trees? RTK signals can get lost with heavy tree cover.
